What is an au pair?

Caring and committed

Au pairs are caring and committed, adventurous and educated young people, ages 18-26 years, from many different countries worldwide.  They are eager to experience American culture while sharing their own unique backgrounds.  While living in your home as a family member, they provide your family  up to 45 hours per week of personalized childcare.  They have decided to venture out of the safety of their own home and culture in order to grow, develop, to improve their English and to widen their horizons, both personally and professionally.

Benefits of hosting an au pair

  • Provide flexible in-home childcare (up to 45 hours a week, 10 hours per day)
  • Assist with child-related household duties including meal preparation, doing their laundry and helping keep their rooms neat
  • Drive children to school, activities and appointments
  • Expose your family to another language and culture

Meet strict requirements

All au pairs come with prior childcare experience including teaching, babysitting or as nannies. In addition, all Cultural Care au pairs must fulfill a number of general requirements and pass a rigorous screening and selection process.  Au-pairs obtain a legal J-1 cultural exchange visa in their home country before traveling to the U.S., and once they arrive, they spend 4 days in the U.S. at our Au Pair Training School reviewing child development, safety and communication.  Once they complete this training, they travel to your home by plane or bus.
